Nascita della Repubblica Italiana

Il 2 giugno 1946 gli italiani, e per la prima volta le italiane, furono chiamati ad un referendum per decidere se l’Italia dovesse rimanere una monarchia, oppure se essa dovesse essere sostituita dalla repubblica.
Vinse quest'ultima con il 52% dei voti. Quello stesso giorno il popolo italiano fu chiamato anche ad eleggere un’Assemblea Costituente che aveva il compito di scrivere la nuova Costituzione della nascente Repubblica Italiana.

Birth of the Italian Republic

On June 2, 1946 the italians, and for the first time the italian woman, were called to a referendum to decide whether Italy should remain a monarchy, or whether it should be replaced by the republic.
The latter won with 52% of the votes. That same day the Italian people were also called to elect a Constituent Assembly which had the task of writing the new Constitution of the nascent Italian Republic.
